Is it even possible to build a client base or network with no website?

Yes, it is most certainly possible, however by not having a website you are losing out on a strategy to build your network.

I’m a firm believer in purchasing a domain in your own name. Even if you don’t have any plans to create a website, there is value in purchasing your name domain to prevent somebody else using it. If you’re thinking of reputation management and don’t have the time or the immediate need for a website it is recommended you purchase your domain name e.g. The Wonderful World of Rae Stonehouse and use it as a forwarder to your bio located online elsewhere such as LinkedIn.

If you are providing a product or service and you have promotional material you want to get in the hands of your customers or clients, you will need to find another way to disseminate your material. PDFs can be a good way to do this. It would be a little easier to do if you had a website to make your downloads available. Having them available would be like a marketing agency working 24 hours around the clock for you.
