Is networking with people easy?

Is networking with people easy?

Yes, no, maybe, sometimes, always. This question doesn’t elicit a one-size-fits all answer.

Those who are extroverted and outgoing thrive on social activities like networking. However, not every extrovert is outgoing.

On the other hand, there are shy, introverts who would rather have a root canal that have to attend a networking event.

On the other, other hand… there are introverts who don’t experience much, if any discomfort when networking.

There are several common factors when it comes to successful networking:

1. Social skills: It is lot easier to meet & greet new people if you have well-developed social skills. These social skills include being able to converse on a variety of topics with ease.

2. Self-confidence: You need to believe in yourself in that you are worthy of meeting somebody new and developing a relationship.

3. Reduced or no fear: Meeting people for the first time and getting to know them can be scary. To help someone else get to know you, you have to reveal some info about yourself. The more you network and meet people, odds are that your fear will reduce and you will be able to turn it into a skill.

There are other skills needed to become an efficient and comfortable networker. One of the secrets in being successful is in having something to offer another, rather than being in a position of looking for something in return.
